Taxiphyllum sp. "Spiky" is part of the Hypnaceae family of aquatic mosses. They are native to shaded waterways throughout tropical areas in Asia. Due to its unique habitat in the wild, this plant can be grown successfully submerged in the aquarium, or emerged in a high humidity terrarium, paludarium, or vivarium.

Spiky Moss is adored because of it resemblance to fir branches and is commonly referred to as Christmas moss' cousin. This moss tends to be used as a carpeting plant or attached rock or wood to soften up hardscape.
